It seems, sometimes, that we must respond whenever we feel we have been wronged.

It seems, sometimes, that we must get angry at the car that cuts us off in traffic.

It seems, sometimes, that we must be right all the time.

It seems, sometimes, that we must fight every fight.

We don’t have to.

We shouldn’t.

We aren’t.

We can’t.

It’s easy to lash out and tell people they’re wrong. It’s easy to respond in anger when we know we are right. It’s easy to believe that you, and you alone, can tell the truths and and protect the world.

The hard thing to do is to breathe deeply.

The hard thing to do is to move on, to get on with your life when you know that to speak is to only draw criticism and yet change no one’s minds.

The hard thing to do is to choose the fights that are worth fighting and to give those fights our all.

The hard thing to do is to breathe deeply.
